weekend review.

this weekend consisted of doing things outside in order to enjoy the sunshine as much as possible. well, except for when i went to see the hunger games and was inside a dark theater for a few hours, but that was an unavoidable necessity. other than that, i spent saturday walking the streets of gruene, and celebrating my dad's birthday at the gristmill (a wonderful restaurant, if you've never been).
sunday was spent at brunch complete with build-your-own mimosas. best. idea. ever. then the man and i were really productive in the tanning department and sat by the pool for the rest of the afternoon.

now that the weekend is over, i am spending my monday watching one tree hill. i have my friend christina to thank for this new found sense of worthlessness as she is the one who pointed out that netflix has every single season on instant play. luckily i am the master of multitasking so the laundry and dishes are done, this post is being written, and i'm working on some CEU's all while watching the ridiculous teenage drama of peyton, hailey, nathan and luke. cheers!

friday afternoon.

It feels like we have skipped right over spring and moved on to summer. Except for the fact that it is a mere 80 degrees and not a sizzling 200 degrees. Today was a splendidly sunny summer day that called for a manicure on the porch followed by some invigorating laying out. While the water is still too chilly to fully submerge myself, I managed to dip my toes in once or twice.
It's been a great start to the weekend which shall include downtown adventures and celebrating my dad's birthday (happy birthday, dad!!!!). Have you gotten to lay out by the pool yet this year?
poolside for the afternoon
manicure on the porch. butter london "yummy mummy" and essie "rock hard". totally recommend butter london polish...it goes on like, well, butter.
dipping the toesies in the cold pool. said pool has a black bottom and the more i look at this photo, the more it seems like i am photographing my feet and the night sky. that is my wonderful photography, for ya!
it was a little too warm for dexter, so he enjoyed the day in the shade.

things that make me smile.

last week was so much fun, i don't even mind that it is monday. after my three days of work last week, i had a date night with the man and then we celebrated st. patrick's day in austin with some great family and friends.
this week has some perks of its own including super nice weather (and some serious lay out plans)...and....THE HUNGER GAMES! i'm a tad excited. excited, but not intense enough to go to a midnight showing. i shall go to a matinee while all of the children are at school and hopefully it will be less packed and there will be no lines to stand in. may the odds be ever in my favor!
i hope you have some fun things planned for your week, and in the meantime, remember the things that make you smile.

tennis tuesday.

Today I decided to give tennis a try. It was only my second attempt at ever playing tennis…the first time being when I was a child and I accidentally hit my brother in the head with my racquet, resulting in me never having any further urge to participate in the sport. The man, however, was apparently a tennis star back in the day and he decided that it was high time that I hit the courts.
I feel the need to tell you that I’m not a sports playing kind of girl. When I was younger, my mom asked if I wanted to play sports I told her that I would rather not sweat if I didn’t have to. So I took up dance. And yes, I realize that involves sweating, but at least I was in an air-conditioned facility and I got to wear a tutu.
With that being said, I enjoyed my tennis attempt. After a quick lesson I was able to volley the ball for a decent period of time and there was a lot less ball chasing than I had anticipated. I’m excited to learn a new sport and have a hobby to share with the man. Now i just need to become an ambidextrous tennis player so that my left arm gets the same workout as my right.

Until then, I shall leave you with pictures of me looking like a lunatic on the tennis court.

the man showing me how it's done.
i feel it is only fair to direct your attention to the location of the ball i was clearly very convinced that i was about to hit. and also please note that my leg appears to be in a post-stag leap position. (dance class, remember?)

more remnants of a stag leap...good lord.

life planner.

This is going to be a riveting post about my agenda. Because I enjoy it quite a lot.

I am one of those people that needs to write things down. I have never been one to remember what time things start, or which day they take place on. If an event or appointment isn’t penciled in my planner you can bet that I most likely won’t show up. In recent years i have tried to switch over to a digital calendar, but for me, I want to be able to physically write down what I’m supposed to be doing. While I do keep a few events in my phone for easy reference, such as my work schedule, I prefer to keep everything together in a more tangible format.
My newest (and most favorite) agenda is my Life Planner by Erin Condren. Oh my goodness, it is just a bundle of wonders. It has everything I require in a calendar and then some. The cover is customizable to fit your taste, and the inside pages are bright and colorful. I want to schedule myself for things for the sole purpose of being able to turn one brightly colored page after another. Seriously. There is a monthly calendar as well as a week-at-a-glance to provide for optimum planning. While I get most use out of the monthly calendar, I can imagine if I were a bit busier that the week-at-a-glance would come in handy. There are lined pages for notes, to do lists, and blank pages throughout the book in order to jot things down. They also provide you with pages of colorful stickers to help better organize your tasks.

One of the things I love about this planner is that it includes a folder and a zip lock pocket in the back to tuck papers or notes that you need to keep in a convenient spot. The zip lock pocket will contain some goodies for you when your planner arrives such as personalized labels and the cutest gift tags you have ever seen. They would be perfect to slap on a bottle of wine if you had an impromptu party to attend. Because I’m always attending impromptu parties.

With that I will cease my rambling about an agenda book. Its thrilling, I’m sure. I imagine you’re on the edge of your seat right now just bubbling with the anticipation of getting a new planner. Are you like me and need to write things down, or you can you get by with just reminders and alerts from your cell phone?
