dreaming in neon.

dreaming in neon

Are there any sweeter words than “vacation request approved”? Perhaps only, “all-inclusive Mexican resort”, both of which are phrases that have been cropping up in my life lately. To celebrate my cousin Sarah’s 30th birthday, we are going to Mexico! Not that I really need an excuse to lay around doing absolutely nothing (except for imbibing adult beverages) and being waited on hand and foot. While the trip isn’t until later this summer, I’ve already started contemplating my bright, beach-y wardrobe. What are your plans for summer? Are you already dreaming in neon like me?

a chandelier in the closet.

Dsc00439
Recently I installed a chandelier in my closet (when I say, “I installed” I really mean that The Man installed it for me) and it is my new favorite thing. If I had it my way, all of my light fixtures would consist of shimmering chandeliers. I can already hear you saying to yourself why the heck did she put a chandelier in the closet? and my reply? Why the heck not?!
While the fixture appears to be slightly dwarfed in the photo, it is actually just the right size and provides an adequate amount of light for my small closet space. It definietly succeeds at turning a drab, cramped apartment closet into a fun, girly nook where i can get dressed everyday.

oreo balls.

Img_0578
What possessed me to make oreo truffles, I know not. Obviously it had nothing to do with my lack of self-control and my undying need to consume sweets. Regardless, I used this recipe to create these treats and let me tell you, it was super easy. In fact, it was too easy. They are deliciously decadent, and I’m not even going to pretend like I want to know how many weight watchers points they are worth. I kept these babies around long enough to snap a few pictures and let the manfriend sample my creation. I saved only a few for my lunches this week, and I then promptly packaged up the remainder and sent them to work with the man as to get them out of my reach. See, I do have some self-control after all.

glitter keys.

Dsc00478
Okay, so I have seen these all over pinterest. Every time I scroll past a pin of a key painted with nail polish I think to myself i. must. do. that. Then I got a brilliant idea to paint a glittery top coat over the nail polish. Then I remembered that I am the proud owner of these:

A gamut of glitter!!  In my opinion, things only get better with a good coating of glitter. Including house keys.
Here is how I made my glitter keys:
Glitter_keys
one: retrieve your house keys.
two: apply a generous coat of nail polish (this is Turquoise and Caicos by Essie.)
*if you plan to coat the key in glitter, you could just use a clear polish.
three: apply a liberal amount of glitter (this is Martha Stewart Collection in Turquoise)
four: seal it all in with a coat of clear polish
enjoy!

saturday shenanigans

Drinks
Saturday was full of excitement including sleeping in, getting my nails done, and roaming around Fredericksburg looking at all of the crap  antiques.  I was in search of a bar cart, and as luck would have it, I found one! It requires a little bit of love, so I’ll give you the low down on that particular item once its in tip top shape. After making such a great find, I was feeling unstoppable in the thrifting department, so I went over to the shop across the street. I was lured over by the cute patio furniture and wind chimes they had for sale. I soon realized, after opening the door and letting myself in, that it wasn’t a shop, but a private residence. As the family dog came to greet me, I promptly took off across the lawn and decided I was good with the purchases I’d already made.
To round out such a successful day, we sat on the patio of a local restaurant, drank local wine, and toasted to bar carts and B&E’s. How was your Saturday? Did you break into anybody’s home on accident?

a new year & a new blog

Dom

A new year brings resolutions, which I am not a huge fan of. Nevertheless, I find myself making them year after year. My resolutions for 2012 include winning the lottery (joking—kind of), and blogging, because I know you all want to keep tabs on what I’m up to.  With that I begin The Blog About Everything- because I am far too indecisive to center it on any sort of theme.
I got to ring in the new year with some of my best friends last weekend. We stayed at the JW Marriott and, simply put, it was the best New Year’s Eve celebration I have had. I believe I will start spending all my holidays at a luxury resort! In the past, New Year’s Eve  has always been anticlimactic and rather disappointing. 2012, however, is proving to be a great year already and I’m only three days in. So here’s to a new blog, and a new year, and all of the amazing people I got to spend it with.
